“A letter I wrote to myself “
Dear me ,
I’m writing this letter to you not only to check on how you’re doing but to have your attention as well. so stop whatever you’re doing and let’s have a one on one conversation between us.
But first things first, I just want to tell you that I’m so soo proud of you ,actually I'm not only proud but I'm very impressed by the moves you’ve made recently and still do.
Pointing out on the way you’ve grown is really amazing and the glow is just perfect!. I see you wake up everyday fighting your challenges with boldness and courage,i see you win at all costs, I see you giving the love as your heavenly father has taught you so, I see you choose not to be silent and use your voice to speak for justice #Blacklivesmatter and I see how much that movement has changed you and given you hope for humanity. It didn’t only change you or give you hope but that BLM movement has inspired you when you saw people having uncomfortable conversations about racism in their communities so that America can heal that wound caused by racism. And I know that it has made you ask yourself this question ..” Why are we lacking those uncomfortable conversations in my motherland in Burundi?, because you want to see healing into yours too, instead of keeping those wounds covered without a treat”.
I know you still haven't forgotten about what happened that Saturday evening when you were just chilling with your friends and someone came out of nowhere straight on you and your friend, started talking to you, very rude, not friendly and blamed you about what your parents' ethnicity has done to him!… Yes, I know you were shocked because you thought in 2020 nobody still has that mentality. But It's all good that whatever that person has told you about wasn’t taken personally, because you could feel every word said came from a licking and hurt place and you could see that he felt like nobody never cared about his pain or nobody heard his voice from the inside.
Before we go any further,I need to remind you that this is not about politics but all about spirituality and humanity.
I know you have a strong relationship with God and He has told you that this world is not your home ,it’s your calling . So it’s time to act as it is and to always remember that your very
first calling is to love His people as you love yourself.
Take it easy I know;it is not always easy to do so but here is what can help you to keep walking in that love and be the answer to the time you’re born in .
First point dear, you need to be WOKE and see that you’re not the only one in hurt, pain is pain ; nobody has it bigger than the other.Everybody goes through that stage. You’ll see it even though you don't know what’s happening in the other person’s life to that person because you can see the evidence of it. I know you didn’t see the origin of that person’s pain but you saw the outcome when you were blamed and hated you for something you don’t understand, scenarios that happened long ago before you were even born. There are things you need to know because you can be living in your own world and be consumed by your own issues and stay unaware of the hurt from our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers(ancestors too)
And for that to happen you need intentionality! it is by being intentional to go where people are not like you ,who don’t think like you who don’t have the same ethnicity as you and connect with them. You gotta try harder and build bridges hunn. Cause they’re things you won't find in books but there are some others you’ll only get when you experience them by yourself, having the relationship, when you’re walking with someone in life, get to understand their world and that’s not manipulation, it’s called LOVE.
After being intentional, next, you’ll start being empathic(the ability to understand and share the feelings of another) for those people you can’t agree with everything; that will help you stop seeing the issue as prime and start to see the person, understanding them, even though you can't experience what they have gone through ....
There are a lot of life episodes you never experienced but that doesn’t mean no one has experienced them. That's why you need to be compassionate towards such situations even when you disagree on some of the things. So don’t be scared to use your resources, your ability , your influence to make someone else's life more equitable(fair), that’s what advocating looks like, but in order to do this you must love « why »God has given you ( your resources, ability and influence) more than « what »He’s given you.
Who knows?? maybe after doing this plus having those uncomfortable conversations , you’ll see that little small and beautiful Burundi as you have always dreamt about, where everybody respects everybody as Hutu , Tutsi, Twa , Men , Women etc…Together we must stand, divided we all fall.
Long story short, let me give you this example to have more understanding about this and clear thoughts : There are two people, one is a man but doesn’t have eyes, the second person is a woman without legs ,and they need to go to the same place for the man to get eyes fixed and the women to get her legs fixed too . So for them to go to that place the woman who has eyes had to climb up to the man’s shoulders who have legs and then the woman became the eyes to the man and the man became the legs to the woman, without each other they couldn’t have gotten to that place ( United we stand, divided we fall).
Write back soon, lovely! I am really looking forward to hearing all your news. Take good care of yourself.
Yours Sincerely,
Myself .’p1k 4
